sowing seeds

Eric and I stopped by the Lewisburg Community Garden yesterday to check on some root vegetables that we had seeded in the early Fall.  I don't remember exactly when we planted the seeds, maybe the beginning of September though.  We more or less scattered some turnip, carrot and beet seeds and then promptly forgot about them.

To our delight, we discovered yesterday that they had taken care of themselves.

It was really fun to chop through the frozen ground and pull out these little hidden treasures.

Having fresh food in the middle of winter makes me feel beyond rich. You cannot buy this stuff at the grocery store.

I suddenly have a growing excitement over what I might grow this summer.  I think it is time to get out the seed catalogues, pour a beverage, and get planning.
